Patron

Nobody knows who invented the Margarita. I certainly didn’t, no matter how much I enjoyed drinking them. That all changed when Patron asked me to do a little digging.

As part of its Museo De La Margarita pop-up event, Patron wanted me to research and write about various artifacts, portraits, and titbits from across history, each with its own unique connection to the ‘rita. Legendary characters, dusty Mexican bars, and even a famous jazz singer, I turned complex rumours and ramblings, plus the odd fact, into simple stories for tequila-loving guests.

A prohibition-inspired accident? A timeless love story? Or some crafty 20th-century marketing? Liquor historians, connoisseurs, and casual detectives have tried and failed to date the iconic drink, but that's not to say it's impossible. Where do you think it started?
